Overview

Hui Chun Gong has its roots in Daoism. The Daoists believe in the harmony between human beings and nature.

As individuals we cannot greatly influence our environment. But we can learn to adapt to it and bring our bodies into balance and harmony, so that we may enjoy good health for as long as possible.

Often we begin to notice an imbalance when physical or psychological symptoms start to appear, or when we are confronted with chronic complaints.

In our modern society we all have to deal with blockades, such as tension, posture problems, emotional disturbance, nervousness, anxiety and stress. But we can learn to restore natural balance to our body and to find, or rediscover our centre.

This will at times require patience and active participation, but also a spiritual rethink and an openness to alternatives, which we often find difficult in the Western world. We have forgotten how to live in harmony with nature, in balance with the environment and ourselves. We can relearn this, regaining the ability bit by bit with patience and sensitivity.

Hui Chun Gong gives us a daily opportunity to achieve this.

Migraine

In the summer of 2009 I began to learn Hui Chun Gong. At this time I was suffering from frequent migraine attacks, which were partly hormonally- and stress-induced. These were being treated conventionally with painkillers.

I took part in a weekend seminar in Regensburg led by Madame Wang Li, and learnt 2 basic exercises from Hui Chun Gong („Leaping Carp“ and „Swimming Dragon“), as well as the 3 pre-exercises. This10–20 minute regime soon became part of my daily routine. After just a few weeks I could already feel the benefit. I had become more flexible and better able to relax, especially in the area of the neck and shoulders. As a result I decided to study further under Madame Wang Li by taking part in an instructor-training course at the TCM and Qigong Training Centre in Bad Münstereifel, in order to learn all of the 25 exercises.

During the course of this training I developed a sensibility for the energy channels or meridians, also for the acupuncture points and the blockades present in my body. I was shown how to relieve symptoms by massaging these points – known as „acupressure“. In the beginning the migraine relief was short-term, consequently I applied acupressure several times a day along with completing the basic Hui Chun Gong exercises at least once a day.

With time the period between attacks became longer; within 2 years I was more or less free of pain. Now and then I notice the acupuncture points, but by massaging them the pain can be averted. I no longer suffer from acute migraine attacks and I have no need for painkillers. It is clear to me that it is important to continue the daily exercise to maintain this state of good health and the sensibility required for it.

In my experience it is not always advisable to refuse medication, especially if the pain attacks are chronic, because it may be necessary for the body first of all to be given a respite from the pain. But in the long term alternative methods such as TCM and Hui Chun Gong can activate and strengthen your self-healing power, allowing you to find your individual health programme. However, you need to be prepared to practise on a daily basis, in the same way that you might take a daily dose of a prescribed medicine. Your body, spirit and soul will thank you for it! I feel healthier today than ever before. It is a welcome development that conventional medicine is becoming more and more open to the benefits of alternative methods and that the two approaches are increasingly used in conjunction to complement each other.
